Helpful Tip
It’s normal to feel like coverage costs too much—but once a policy is cancelled, that rate and eligibility are gone for good. Re-applying later usually means higher prices or even being declined altogether if health changes. The low, subsidized rates you locked in were based on your original approval and can’t be replaced. Keeping your current policy guarantees lifelong protection and keeps you grandfathered into a plan you may never qualify for again.
Employer coverage might feel secure—but it’s temporary. Most job-based life insurance ends within 30 days of leaving your job, retiring, or even being laid off. If that happens, you lose all protection instantly. Personal coverage is different: it stays with you for life, never depends on your employer, and locks in your insurability before age or health changes make it impossible to qualify again.
It’s common for friends or family to second-guess insurance decisions—but they won’t be the ones responsible for the financial burden if something happens to you. Too many families lose coverage they’ll never qualify for again because someone “meant well.” Once canceled, your rate and approval are gone for good, and re-applying later could mean higher costs or a decline altogether. Protecting your loved ones is a personal decision—and this policy ensures they’re never left unprotected.
It’s easy to confuse “total coverage” with “face value.” The face value shown on your paperwork is just the guaranteed minimum life-insurance payout, but your total coverage includes all the additional benefits, cash value, and association protections that activate over time. Many members mistake this for an error and cancel valuable lifelong benefits they already qualified for—benefits that can’t be reinstated once cancelled.
